Lack Of Moral Fibre?

I have watched a number of TV documentaries recently about troops in World War Two.
It is a period of history I already know quite well.
I have some simple questions:-
Would our people today possess the mental wherewithal and strength to tackle life in the way these people did?
Could our present day population cope with a blitz?
Could our cossetted, pampered, spoilt young people discover reserves of energy to fight an attritional longterm war against a determined foe?
I am rather guessing that you probably know what my guess would be!
