In the opening four overs, Broad and Anderson looked to be bowling with the same degree of control over their line and length as in the previous match.

From that point on, England largely wasted the new ball. Line was generally adequate but the length chosen by England's best ever opening pair of seamers was way too short. Back to bad habits!
Had it not been for the mighty contribution of three wickets in the morning session by Chris Woakes - by later in the day - England's goose could have been well and truly cooked.
Stokes was little better than average and Rashid incredibly untidy.

India will now make a very healthy score after having been inserted when Root won the toss. It is backs to the wall for England.
