Nathan Doud.

American Nathan Doud was sentenced to 20 months in prison for tragically causing the deaths of three people when he got confused about driving on the correct side of the road. He had only been in the country for a couple of hours.
Is this justice, I ask?
Too many people escape the 10 and 20 year sentences they deserve when causing death by dangerous driving when drunk, at appalling speeds, possessing no licence, no insurance and being subject to driving bans.
Sometimes this happens after they have initiated a police chase and oft times in stolen cars.
This is a decent man who has made a mistake - albeit a terrible one.
Is it right to seek to punish for an error? Surely, this is a civil matter.
I lament the countless feeble sentences dished out willy-nilly in our courts. This one is wrong. It really does smack of vengeance. Similarly, retribution is utterly inappropriate.
