'Save Us From Labour'?

PETER HITCHENS: Only one thing can save us from Labour: A Tory split.

'If a large number of Tory MPs now defect to Ukip, it can be transformed in a few weeks into a real third party which can thrash Ed Miliband in many seats, writes PETER HITCHENS.' Mail. Peter may be right but there is something far more important at stake here than merely stopping Miliband - it is that UKIP should be seen as distinct and separate from the LibLabCon. It is UKIP's freshness which is its principal asset. How would Labour voters react to a Tory/UKIP Party? - Not massively well across the political spectrum and UKIP MUST represent the working man. It must be the party for the whole of society. It must be the party of common sense and without loyalties owed - except, of course, to the electorate. The only voters who should be in fear are the dyed-in-the-wool types - both Labour and Tory - as well as the liberal left who are largely responsible for the mess we are in today.

Butterfly.
