So Why No Nobel Prize For Alec Jeffreys?

Jeffreys receives the Copley medal for his pioneering work on variation and mutation in the human genome. The Copley medal was first awarded by the Royal Society in 1731, 170 years before the first Nobel Prize.

1984 DNA fingerprints were discovered by Alec Jeffreys. At first, these were used extensively to resolve disputed immigration cases. 1987 The first DNA profile is developed, also by Jeffreys. These use pieces of DNA from only a few selected sites on a person's chromosomes.
