SIR – That Sadiq Khan, the Labour Mayor of London, is hoping to impose rent controls in the capital will come as no surprise (report, August 14). It does, however, raise two questions:
|
First, how many times do rent controls have to fail before Left-wing politicians accept that they simply do not work?
Secondly, if there is more demand for rented property than supply in London (as evidenced by rent increases), why has Labour cut housing targets for the capital? Surely Labour should want more homes built in London, not fewer – unless, of course, the increase in housing targets in the shires and the reduction in our cities has more to do with building the Tories out of Middle England.
