Major Culling Is Often Dreadful But Necessary: Heartbreaking Though It Be. However ...

Blogger: for once I really do not know what
 to think.
Maybe this horrific bloodshed was
necessary - maybe not. My heart is aching.
I say this as one who has regularly
called for major culls of: corvidae
(principally magpies); of the alien
grey squirrel which kills off so many
trees whilst brutalising the nests of
millions of songbirds.
I want to see all predators cut back
to the more sustainable levels we had
Since moving to our current home in
1975 - a great many songbird species
have simply disappeared at the same
time as the creatures mentioned above
 have thrived.
  How many different predators have
moved from the countryside into towns
and cities, I wonder?
(Last week I spotted 26 magpies in
one deadly gang on the roof of a
single local property just 100 yards
from my own. They were presumably
plotting their next killing spree - with
songbirds high on their snack list!)
Overall, we estimate that since 1975,
some 80%+ of our local song birds have
 been lost.
My calls for culling are always rational
- I shall be needing much convincing,
however, for what has been occurring
in Canada.

Morally Unacceptable!
