In the early 70s I had an argument about immigration into the UK with a rank leftie. (Funny how trivial the numbers back then now seem!)
I stated that the only people who should be allowed to immigrate were spouses (genuine) and those who would be 'good for the country'.
I was accused of having 'double standards'. Pehaps you can work out the logic in that! My own nation's 'best interests' were all that interested me.
40 years on - I look back and with all due modesty must declare - "I was 100% right!"
