Refugees: getting it right.

On the 28th July, 1951 The United Nations Convention on Refugees, of which the UK is a signatory, and updated with a protocol in 1967, determined that a refugee is:

"A person who owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality and is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country; or who, not having a nationality and being outside the country of his former habitual residence as a result of such events, is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to return to it..."
.
It is very clearly stated that refugees must seek asylum in the nearest safe haven.
Tracking half way across the world to avail oneself of Britain's benefits is a NON STARTER.
The UKIP policy currently supports the UN Convention.
Even David Blunkett admitted that 90+% are NOT refugees but are bogus. Not only is that unfair to the UK but also means that the genuine tend to 'get lumped in' with those who are trying it on - which is criminal!
If 'the nearest safe country' point is considered in addition - ALL fail to meet UN criteria here.

Our problem as Christians in all of this is that we truly want to help the genuine.

Remember, Mary and Joseph when in fear of their lives fled only to the country next door!
