Miles Coverdale.

It is only courtesy of Melvyn Bragg's very fair TV assessment and portrayal of William Tyndale that I learned how important William was in bringing the King James Bible to us.
I had wrongly assumed that the martyred Tyndale had produced 'some sort of translation' which was superceded by the Miles Coverdale better version of 1535 and then we got 'the real one' with the KJV in 1611.
Apparently, in the Coverdale and KJV , the bulk came from the Tyndale.
We have much to thank this earnest scholar for.
Incidentally, in his betrayal and scandalous execution - we see the ungodly hand of the allegedly saintly Thomas More.
It was indeed the reviled Thomas Cromwell who tried to save him.
