Wind farms? Firstly, we need the wind ....
Sir – Has anyone else noted that during the prolonged cold spells there has been hardly any wind and, especially during the foggy days, no sun. As a result we have to rely totally on oil/coal/nuclear power for energy creation. Yet this Government is still charging ahead with plans to build more and more land-based wind farms and invest more and more in developing solar power. Eleven per cent of the money you pay to British Gas, Scottish Power etc is going to the Government to pay for this costly and self-defeating approach. All that is happening is that we are spending this money to no real advantage, yet at the same time we are having to maintain/increase oil/coal power stations production as guaranteed back-up. UKIP policy on this is very clear. We need to investigate clean ways of producing power from coal and oil but that nuclear power is the only guarantee for a renewable and reliable source of power. If we don’t recognise this then in the next 10 years the lights will be going out all over the UK.
