Even if we very kindly allow that the body in the cellar was not that of his wife - and the arguments are distinctly mixed on that point - I would quite like to know two things:
1) Where did his wife go to 'disappear off the face of the earth'? Alleged 'letters' from her were as unconvincing as the ones known to have been written by the good doctor.
2) What was he doing with a relatively recent, poisoned corpse in his cellar in any case?
The circumstantial evidence was some of the strongest I've ever seen. Using modern legal workings (which as a JP I was accustomed to do) I would return a guilty verdict.
Crippen innocent? - Ha!
