A huge mob stormed a Christian school in north-west Pakistan, demanding
its immediate closure.
About 300 young people, said to be from local schools and colleges,
entered Panel High School for Boys in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, last
week after forcing open the gates. Some were armed with
guns.
Fredrick Farhan Das, who is the principal of the church-administered
school, reported that the mob ransacked the building, damaging property,
smashing windows and shouting anti-Christian slogans. Four students were
slightly injured in a stampede that ensued.
Police assigned to protecting the school reportedly did nothing to
intervene. Mr Das said the school should have expected greater security,
following the massacre at the Army Public School in Peshawar in December, in
which 145 people died.
