If you'll pardon the ironic way stated, my police officer father,
always thought that teaching was something of 'a bobby's job'.
He was not a man who was often wrong in his social assessments, but
on this occasion, he was way off beam.
In my forty years in teaching, I saw countless people quit the
profession because of the huge stress of doing what I used to refer to as "A
fantastic job - ruined."
How many wonderful educators were lost to our nation because of:
declining discipline; aggressive parents; government interference; OFSTED
bullying et al.
How many staff did I see break down and leave - broken under the
pressure. This YP article, to some extent, helps to explain.
(I was so stressed back in 1990 that I feared for my very life and my only viable survival strategy was to take an unpaid sabbatical for a year. When I returned, I promptly resigned all my accumulated, promotion posts. I lived to tell the tale.)
