England Throw Away First Test In New Zealand.

With seven wickets remaining to bat out the final day and secure a draw, skipper Root, assisted ably by Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler, ensured that the test would be lost by getting out in very poor fashion.
The pitch looked dreadful as it disintegrated in key areas but played far better than it looked - as evidenced by the excellent stand between Curran, 29 not out and Archer with a handy 30, who both showed more senior batsmen how it should have been done.
This match was salvageable and England did not do so.
Innings defeats are not very palatable at the best of times but England got exactly what they deserved, losing by an innings and 65 runs. What a thrashing this was.
The Kiwis outplayed us in all areas of the game. Congratulations to them for their well-merited victory.
