Psalm 51.

Some seem to possess a belief that Jesus brought a totally new teaching in the New Testament which was not known in the Old. Certainly, there is a sea change from the Old to the New Covenant. Well, isn't there?
Just how unexpected was it?

Consider Psalm 51 - verses 16 & 17:

"For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God ... "

These verses show clearly that the Old Covenant was insufficient and there would be something based on the substance of these two verses to replace it.
