Whose mutual friend?

Charles Dickens was truly amazing. Okay, I know that his humour does not always lend itself to a modern audience; his characters are oft times stereotypes and convoluted plots vie with coincidences to make the plots work.
BUT. Without doubt his grasp of human nature, human weaknesses, strengths and failings, touch the heart in a way that more realistic writers such as Hardy simply cannot match.
His last completed work was 'Our Mutual Friend' and he had risen with this novel to even greater heights than he had achieved with the mighty 'Bleak House'.
If you do not read Dickens - at least seek out the TV dramatisations of his works.
Little wonder producers return to him time and again for costume dramas. The works are so meaty, cathartic and entertaining.
