In the immortal words of singer and leading Canadian poet, Leonard Cohen: "There is a war between the left and right, a war between the black and white, ....a war between the man and the woman ......there is a war between the ones who say there is a war and the ones who say there isn't."Where crime is concerned, we ARE in a war. The problem is we have all got so used to the ongoing attrition that we hardly care or notice any more and the ones who lead us know that there is a war but do not want to win it in any case!
Choice: our way of doing it or the Singapore way.
The people should be given the chance to vote for the one system or the other - it is hard to see where there is any middle ground. You want to win - or you don't.
