'A controversial ban on same-sex marriage in California was dramatically overturned last night.
The about-turn came despite a 2008 public referendum when the majority of voters in the state upheld the conventional stance that marriage should only be between a man and a woman.
In striking down the ban on gay and lesbian marriages yesterday, Chief U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker said it was ‘unconstitutional.’
Some might be surprised to learn that trampling on the democratic will of the people IS constitutional in the USA.
