S. Africa.

Hmm. S. Africa has a staggering 22,000 murders a year.
I wonder why abolitionists forget to use this nation as part of their arguments when they claim that 'the death penalty does not deter'?
Increases of many hundreds of per cent since abolition apparently: do not count; prove nothing; are not relevant; do not take into account 'other factors', blah, blah.
I wonder if, what are now hundreds of thousands of extra , tragic deaths in S. Africa, ever disturb the sleep of all those 'worthies' who brought this situation about? - I expect not.
They have convinced themselves that 'capital punishment does not deter'.
- Wrong!
