Bail bandits.

If the general public had the slightest inkling of how many toerags are offered bail, for what serious offences and how many become 'bail bandits' they would have a fit!

Well, I do have the numbers - SEVENTY THOUSAND PLUS in a single year!

Stop and consider the magnitude of these stats.

These are people who: A] Fail to answer bail. B] Commit further offences whilst on bail. C] Threaten or intimidate witnesses. D] Breach carefully worked out conditions.

If you thought that I go on about crime a bit too much on this Blog, perhaps now you will see why.

I was part of this iniquitous process and I did all in my power to keep locked up all those charged with serious offences - but to no great avail.

The current guideline is that "ALL defendants are entitled to bail" and a very specific reason must be found not to grant it.

In the case of minor offences - so be it - but in the case of: 1] Those with established criminal records 2] Those with ANY previous history of bail breaches
3] Those charged with the more serious indictable offences - there should be no question whatsoever of bail.

The trouble is of course that this is not being done for two reasons: do-gooder attitudes with no care for public safety and the appalling lack of prison places.

Next time Crimewatch is on the box, watch with care and see the nature of the varied and grave crimes for which bail has been frivolously granted!
