Widiculous Woy.

The contemptible [See earlier posting, Feb. 25th 2008] Roy Jenkins was ultimately responsible for our current, absurd system of food labelling. He was European Commission President [Prize for treachery] when it issued directive 79/112, laying down often silly rules about date marking on food. We adopted them in 1980. [Of course, we did!]

According to WRAP, the Waste and Resources Action Programme, we chuck out 6.7 million tons of food every year, most of it fine to eat. This year we will throw food worth up to £10 billion in the bin. That's £420 for every UK household.

I ignore 'Best before' dates and use common sense.
If meat or fish is concerned where 'use by' dates are in play, then I cook really well. Again - simple common sense could cut this disgraceful waste.
[Incidentally, my Morrisons Crisp and Crunchy Salad did not last until its dates and had to be slung out this week.]
