Criminalising ever more 'easy targets'.

'The drink-drive limit could be lowered so that even having a glass of wine before you get behind the wheel would be illegal. Transport Secretary Lord Adonis has today asked legal expert Sir Peter North to advise on the case for changes to the limit as well as a possible tightening of the laws on drug-driving.'

For me this is an area of expertise. I have not only removed many a licence from drivers over the limit but I have also sent a number to prison.
Observations:
1) The idea described is the umpteenth time this has been brought up and is only peripherally linked to questions of road safety. It is primarily to 'bring us into line with the EU' - sufficient reason in itself to ditch the plan.
2) There are masses of problems in court currently, with residual alcohol from drinking well before driving, without complicating the issue even further.
3) It is not drivers hovering around the current limit who are the danger to others in any significant way but rather those who drive when well over the limit. Great idea then. Let's go for easy targets and not the hardcore problem! Just how often do these wretched governments resort to such spiteful, catch-all tactics.
4) This is just one more example of 'nanny state' in action.
5) It is clever - in a sinister sort of way - because those who merely glance at this without looking at the matter in any depth could easily conclude that 'it seems a good idea'.

PUNISH THE REAL DRINK DRIVERS - PROPERLY!
