Most senior Labour figures either are or have been members of that subtle, devious, underhand group called the Fabian Society. Probably 80% of the population haven't a clue what it is or does.Set up and named after a Roman General by Sidney & Beatrice Webb towards the end of the 19th century, it had numerous members who, although detached from the real world, always 'knew what was best for it!" It has been a clandestine force which deplores the nation state and has worked ceaselessly for the EU and globalisation. Even its image is a wolf in sheep's clothing, if you wanted a clue. It does not believe greatly in 'the responsibility of the individual' and has therefore been a major force in the social downturn that we have witnessed in the last half century.
Connected with certain religious groups, it has been a one time home for that oxymoron, christian socialism. It also had links to cults such as theosophy [Annie Besant] and freemasonry.
"Fabianism believes in “the democratic control of society in all its activities.” [Control!] – whereas most people see democracy as based on the freedom and liberty of the individual, Fabian socialism places the emphasis on control of the individual – a sort of “we know what is best” attitude. It sees this as being best achieved through some form of global government, a goal it shares with Communism, (which is also based on centralised control)."
